On Saturday, March 27, 2010, Oga Ju Couture, Inc. will bring to you, African Fashion Rocks New York City. This high fashion couture show will include upcoming African designers, Oyato, Kreatif Designs, Almira Wilson’s Leonche , Galapego and Bewaji. These designers have created vivacious works of art with a touch of their cultural history, but most certainly in the present. You will be blown away by the array of colorful and beautifully crafted designs. The fashion show will be held at 8:00pm at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in Queens, NY. This show is a multi-day event showcasing couture and luxury fashion. Hosted by Nkem Odum, this show also includes an appearance by Aminat Ayinde from Cycle 12 of America’s Next Top Model and a special guest performance by Nigerian superstar “Chelle” followed by a reception.
About the Designers:
OYATO (adj.) translation – absolutely, unequivocally DIFFERENT!
The difference is they use fabrics from Africa, a traditionally patriarchal society to create commanding designs for women to illustrate that you can be gracefully feminine yet bold and confident in a male dominated world.
OYATO is the brainchild of Odunayo Ade, a Brooklyn New York born designer of Nigerian ancestry. With an eye for head turning colors and flair for unique prints Odunayo has taken her childhood dream of fashion design from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York to working at some of the industry’s top fashion houses. OYATO has been featured at local and national fashion shows and as alumnus of the Tracy Reese fashion house Odunayo has participated at the prestigious New York Fashion Week.
In the past year, OYATO has released two collections, ‘Call of the Wild’ our Fall/Winter Collection and ‘Eclecticism’ the Holiday Collection. Currently, the ‘LADY’ Spring/Summer Collection is in the works to be released for viewing in the coming months.
OYATO is a household name with a strong team that provides many services such as Photography, Make Up Artistry, Wardrobe Styling and Tailoring.
Kreatif Designs
Kreatif Designs, founded in the Fall of 2007, has been a lifetime vision of Tosin Olaniyi founder and designer of Kreatif Designs. With many occasions in the African communities, a good designer has become a necessity, since everyone wants someone who can suitably bring their ideas to life.
Having the urge for fashion led to this act of creativity, which emerged when Tosin picked up a pencil and started sketching outfits that she would love to wear and added a memorable gift a sewing machine. With all these, she gradually taught herself how to sew. In her quest for fashion, style, and glamour, Tosin started conducting research and inquiries about designing and tailoring.
After designing a ladies line for many occasions, Kreatif Designs decided to pursue the dream of becoming one of the artistic designers that promotes fashion inspired by Africa and its beauty, found in its diversity and culture; represented by its richness and beauty of its fabrics.
